On Classes and Cupping
I believe that anyone can brew a good cup of coffee. Yes, I said it. Anyone can make coffee and make it well. No, I’m not worried that all of you will learn to brew coffee at home and stop coming into Palace. Coffee always tastes better when it’s made by someone else. I enjoy overseeing the barista training at Palace because I have the chance to see a barista put all the pieces together, brew her first cup of coffee, and smile with the glow of success.
Since taking on the head trainer position, I’ve had a desire to share my knowledge with customers. I want customers to feel empowered to brew coffee at home, feel comfortable experimenting with their coffee, find joy in crafting a good beverage and understand that anyone can brew a good cup of coffee. So, I started hosting monthly brewing classes and public coffee cuppings. Many of you have attended these events and learned about coffee with me. My friend Becky came to the Aeropress class and now uses an aeropress to brew coffee for herself in her office. I know I’ve done a good job when customers return with success stories and questions.
Sadly, I’m here to announce that Palace is postponing the monthly classes and public cuppings. We’ve recently opened our third location, nearly doubled our staff and won’t be slowing down anytime soon. This doesn’t mean there won’t be educational opportunities during the summer. Know that you can email me, email@example.com with any questions you have about coffee. I’ll continue to write blog posts to teach you all about various topics. This summer, I will be doing a series on iced coffee, so look forward to a few of these posts as well as brew guides.
If you’re still curious and want to learn more, email me and we can set up a one-on-one training session. Want to master a specific brew method? Or want to finally learn espresso preparation? Let’s have fun, brew coffee and learn together!
If that’s not enough content for you, let me end on a teaser. We’re preparing something for you that will give you an opportunity to have an entire coffee experience where you can learn what it takes to be a barista and try your skills on Palace’s bar. Stay tuned for details.
Go for gold,
