Get to know Nicole
It’s that time again, folks! Time for you to get to know another one of our incredibly talented, awesome, down-to-earth, kind, coffee-hearted baristas! This week: Nicole Gutierrez!
Nicole just moved here from Lubbock, Texas and works at our Canyon location. She is one of the most genuine people you will ever meet and knows how to put a smile on your face, even on the worst of days. You will find Nicole most often in good conversation or looking way too cute in one of her many vintage dresses. Nicole has a Biology degree from Lubbock Christian University and is still working on a Masters of Psychology at WT. She is also Barista Level 1 certified and hopes to be Level 2 certified by the end of the year. Here is a little more about the sweet and beautiful Nicole:
Where are you from?
Denver City, TX
How do you spend your days off?
Adventuring outside, studying for graduate school, and visiting coffee shops.
What fictional character would you choose to be your life coach?
John Keating from the Dead Poet Society
What got you interested in coffee?
Coffee is delicious. I started visiting coffee shops because I loved the taste of coffee and enjoyed the atmosphere. I soon discovered that coffee is a craft, and that the quality of each cup is dependent upon many different things such as how the coffee is produced, water quality, and brewing principles. On a broader level, I recognized that coffee is a medium that brings people together and gives people the opportunity share ideas and create community.
If you were a secret agent what would be your alias?
Nicole...no, no, no, I mean Leslie Knope.
What is the nicest thing someone else has done for you?
I've been fortunate in that many people have done pretty wonderful things for me. A more recent one that comes to mind is last year, I was working in a coffee shop and one of the regular customers "tipped" a replacement part to my car, because he knew I needed it. People are awesome.
One thing on your bucket list?
Coffee related- visit a coffee producing farm during harvest.
Not Coffee related- walk across Spain on Camino de Santiago.
If you could dis-invent one thing what would it be?
The Keurig. Not really it would probably be television.
What is your favorite movie line?
"For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again."
